7 relationship problems that are worse than cheating

Falling in love is easy, but making relationships work takes work.

Some relationship issues are worse than cheating [GhanaWeb]

Even the strongest couples face challenges in their relationship. Disagreements, misunderstandings, and arguments are all part of the journey.

However, some problems can have a much more damaging effect on a relationship than a single misstep, like infidelity (cheating). These issues can slowly erode trust, create resentment, and eventually tear a couple apart.

Here are 7 common relationship problems that can be even more destructive than cheating:

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Lack of communication in a relationship can be damaging [Medium]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Lack of communication in a relationship can be damaging [Medium]” width=”790″ height=”527″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/-10ktkpTURBXy9hNTJkYjAzNWM1ZDk1ZDBhMDUxYTE0OTc1MjIyMjMxNS5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAg_Cww” />

Communication is the lifeblood of any relationship. If you and your partner can’t talk openly and honestly about your feelings, needs, and concerns, problems will arise. Bottled-up emotions can lead to resentment, misunderstandings, and a sense of disconnection.

Relationships are about feeling loved, supported, and valued. If your partner is emotionally unavailable, distant, or simply doesn’t seem interested in connecting with you, it can be incredibly hurtful. Feeling emotionally neglected can leave you feeling lonely and unloved, even if you’re physically together.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Constant criticism and belittlement put a strain on relationships [TheStandard]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Constant criticism and belittlement put a strain on relationships [TheStandard]” width=”790″ height=”544″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/m74ktkpTURBXy81NGQ4ODA2ZTEyYjU2ZGJmNmM1NmExYzZjYTViODg4Yi5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAiDCww” />

Imagine you’re excited to share your accomplishment with your partner, but they immediately shoot you down with a negative comment. Over time, this kind of constant criticism can be incredibly damaging. Feeling like you’re never good enough, or that your partner doesn’t respect you, can chip away at the foundation of your relationship.

Money can be a major source of stress in relationships. If your partner is hiding spending habits, running up debt without your knowledge, or refusing to discuss finances openly, it can create a huge wedge between you.

A healthy relationship is built on trust and respect. If your partner tries to control your every move, who you see, or what you do, it’s a major red flag. This kind of controlling behaviour can be suffocating and can ultimately destroy your sense of self.

Nobody is perfect. If you go into a relationship expecting your partner to fulfil all your needs and desires, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Healthy relationships are about compromise [FCMB]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Healthy relationships are about compromise [FCMB]” width=”790″ height=”527″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/P9kktkpTURBXy85MjU5YzgxN2I5NmEwYmQzODVhNWM3YTVmNDQ1NGRiYS5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAg_Cww” />

Healthy relationships are about compromise, understanding, and accepting your partner for who they truly are, flaws and all.

Physical intimacy is an important part of many relationships. But intimacy goes beyond just sex. It’s about feeling close, connected, and emotionally safe with your partner. If your relationship lacks any form of intimacy, it can be difficult to feel truly bonded to your partner.

Amina, Ayinla, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, now Wole Soyinka – Nollywood enters biopic era

As the taste of the Nollywood audience expands, helped by the rise of streaming platforms distributing this content to the world, creators in the space have begun to explore more niche but important stories.

In the past three decades, Nollywood has earned its stripes as a formidable producer of cinema and TV content, but biopics about iconic cultural figures have not been its focus. Filmmakers have been inclined to pursue safer genres – epics, romcoms, comedies, and action thrillers – easier to produce and more likely to be box office hits.

But as the taste of the Nollywood audience expands, helped by the rise of streaming platforms distributing this content to the world, creators in the space have begun to explore more niche but important stories.

In large part, the biopic gold rush is happening because distributors have seen that, at the core, Nollywood audiences want to be entertained, making producers more comfortable investing in the genre. Ojo, the creator of Wole Soyinka, said he has long been attracted to biopics. After he made Efunsetan Aniwura, a 2020 biopic on the famous slave trader, he felt more comfortable convincing distributors about Wole Soyinka.

To some extent, producers are scared to get a no from distributors that biopics don’t sell. But I’m glad everyone is now looking towards that direction,” he told Pulse Nigeria.

This move to make biopics comes at a time of heightened awareness of African storytelling and representation by Western media. The sequel to the classic Coming to AmericaComing 2 America was met with backlash by Africans who argued that everything from the accent of the Africans to the portrayal of ethnic identities, and polygamy reeks of silly Western tropes about Africa.

Africa is a hugely diverse place, impossible to stereotype; I couldn’t tell you what Zamunda is meant to be inspired by, because it doesn’t resemble any African nation I can think of,” the writer, Allegra Frank, decried of Coming 2 America in Slate magazine.

Aside from pride in the subject of these biopics, these stereotypes are some of the sources of irritation around the portrayal of Africa writ large in Hollywood that has compelled filmmakers to forgo breaking box office records for more movies with more serious subject matters. Some of these filmmakers want to tell the stories before Hollywood hijacks them, with promises of respect for the source material that it has consistently failed to deliver.

Our culture is rich and beautiful and I salute those who have decided to wear the shoes and to tell our history. It is a difficult task, it is more expensive to make, take it or leave it. So I salute the few ones that are celebrating our rich culture,” Ojo said.

But this is not to say the Nollywood biopics released so far have been perfect. Amina came under heavy criticism from Northern women who said the film presented a false depiction of their experience.

I was afraid that he [the director] would not do the movie justice when I saw these words on the screen before the movie even began, ‘At a time when women were subjugated…’ Come on! We are talking about a queen who ruled men and led them to war,” Furera Bagel, a lecturer at Bauchi State University said of Amina.

Funding for research and development remains a huge problem. But the budget for a Nollywood movie in 2019 has dramatically expanded just four years later.

Plus the filmmakers behind these biopics more or less have the blessings of the subjects or their families. According to Ojo, the plot of Wole Soyinka was narrated by the author himself. Ojo said he was particularly attracted to the life of Soyinka, who will be 90 this July, because of his contributions to African literature.

Love him or hate him Prof Wole Soyinka deserves his flowers while he’s still alive and not when he’s no longer with us. Prof is a spiritual thinker operating within dramatic and poetic rhymes,” Ojo said.

Ojo added that the genre is perfect for educating the world about Africans and African stories.“Strangers will tell our stories if we don’t. It’s time we bring Nigerian history, culture, and heritage to the forefront of our consciousness.”

This tea has 9 wonderful benefits but not everybody can drink it

It will improve the functioning of the stomach and pancreas.

There are quite a lot of benefits from drinking nettle tea [Shutterstock]

The infusion of nettle tea has been used in folk medicine for centuries. You will be surprised at its properties.

Nettle tea is made from the dried leaves of this herb. Although we usually stay away from this stinging weed as much as possible, nettle has many positive properties and can be very beneficial to our health.

Its traditional use includes the treatment of hay fever and seasonal allergies – although there is no clear scientific confirmation of this use of nettle tea.

Doctors recommend drinking nettle tea because it will help with many other ailments and will protect and strengthen the body.

This herbal infusion can be drunk in the evening, before going to bed, because it does not have a stimulating effect in any way.

There are quite a lot of benefits from drinking nettle tea regularly, and the most important ones include many properties. How does nettle affect the body?

It has been proven that the use of nettle can reduce the symptoms of the disease. Nettle infusion can help flush bacteria from the urinary tract.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="No one should drink nettle infusion like orange juice [MKL]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”No one should drink nettle infusion like orange juice [MKL]” width=”790″ height=”527″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/kbRktkpTURBXy8wNTcwOWEwMTIzMjQyNmM5ZTRlMjU0MTkwY2QzOWU0Yy5qcGeSlQMAAM0EsM0DIJUCzQMWzQIPwsM” />

In the past, nettle infusion was used as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent. It turns out that nettle tea can reduce and soothe inflammation in osteoarthritis.

According to scientists, nettle tea has a beneficial effect on glycemic control, i.e. blood sugar levels. It affects the amount of insulin released by the pancreas.

These specific antioxidants are exceptionally powerful and have been linked to reducing the risk of many serious diseases, including some types of cancer. Nettle extract has been shown to have an exceptionally good effect on breast and prostate cancer.

Antioxidants protect cells against free radicals and oxidative stress, which has also been linked to other chronic diseases, including heart disease.

Thanks to this, it will not only help deal with urinary tract infections, but also affects the proper functioning of the kidneys and helps people who struggle with swelling and water retention in the body.

It is perfect as a strengthening herb.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Nettle has many positive properties and can be very beneficial to our health [Healthshots]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Nettle has many positive properties and can be very beneficial to our health [Healthshots]” width=”770″ height=”436″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/J_NktkpTURBXy9jZDNlOWExMjJjNWJhZTRmM2MzOGMyNTg2MTgwZGI4NC5qcGeSlQMAAM0DAs0BtJUCzQMCzQG0wsM” />

Both nettle tea and cosmetics with this herb have a positive effect on the condition of the skin, hair and nails. All thanks to the content of vitamin B1, C, E, and K, as well as phosphorus, manganese, silicon and calcium. Nettle rinse will help cure dandruff.

Nettle has been appreciated for centuries for its many health-promoting properties. In folk medicine, its antibacterial properties were also often used as a natural antibiotic.

Nettle tea will help with common digestive and stomach ailments. It will improve the functioning of the liver, stomach and pancreas. It can be used for intestinal and gastritis and to relieve diarrhea.

No one should drink nettle infusion like orange juice, because the diuretic properties of this herb may result in deficiencies of valuable minerals and electrolytes.

It is not recommended to drink nettle tea by people suffering from reproductive organ diseases, chronic kidney diseases or after surgery.

Because nettle infusion affects insulin secretion, people with diabetes should consult a doctor.

Milky doughnuts inside poto poto” – Reactions as Medical Experts Raise Concerns over Milky Doughnuts

Nigerians may be shocked to hear that the craze for milky doughnuts covered in condensed or powdered milk can be more hassle than benefit.

The craze began with TikTok, a popular video app among Nigerians. Videos that highlighted the deliciousness of Milky Doughnuts went viral.

The craze extended to X (formerly Twitter), where comedians hopped on board to produce videos including fan-made versions. Online sellers took advantage of the excitement and actively advertised the snack, riding the wave of popularity.

Following extensive study on this well-liked snack, medical professionals have expressed doubts about its safety and advise Nigerians to consume it in moderation.

Speaking with PUNCH on Monday, April 8, these medical experts raised concerns about the possibility that Milky Doughnuts might contribute to diabetes, hypertension, and obesity among other health problems.

They highlighted the generally low nutritional value of junk food and pointed out the high levels of fat, sugar, and calories in these doughnuts, which can contribute to unhealthy weight gain.

“These doughnuts are low in nutrients, making them an inadequate dietary choice,” warned Charles Ogunikpe, a dietician.

“The high sugar content can increase the risk of gum disease and cavities. Additionally, Milky Doughnuts have a high glycemic index, meaning they can cause blood sugar spikes.”

Nigerian comedian, Oluwaseyitan Aletile, also known as Seyi Law, has fumed over the 0.5 per cent cybersecurity levy recently introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

DAILY POST reported that the apex bank on Monday directed banks operating in the country to start charging a cybersecurity levy on transactions.

Reacting, Seyi Law said the new CBN policy was “unacceptable”.

He urged the apex bank to revisit the policy.

Tagging President Bola Tinubu, the comedian asked the President to allow the masses “breathe,” querying when the new minimum wage would be announced and implemented.

He said some ministers are not doing their jobs well, stressing that one year into the administration and there is nothing much on ground.

On his X handle, Seyi Law wrote: “I hate when government agencies don’t speak up to the understanding of the citizens and allow wrong narratives to fester before tackling it. Cybersecurity level, according to the act, is 0.005%, and different figures from 0.5% to 3% are being thrown around.

“A 0.5% charge in the Nigeria of today is in itself too much punishment on Nigerians. Are we trying to discourage banking transactions again and encourage cash keeping? @cenbank should revisit this abeg.

“Stamp duty is something, and now this. It is unacceptable. @NGRPresident @officialABAT, let the poor breathe. When will the new minimum wage be announced and implemented? Some of your ministers need to look for another job. One year is here and we are counting.”

Edikaikong Soup

Edikaikong soup has over the years topped the list of Nigerian popular soups because of its nutritional value and ease of preparation.

When we say “vegetable soup” in Nigeria, we are actually talking about this delicacy.

This soup is native to the Efiks, people from the cross river state. The name edikaikong simply translates to “vegetable soup”

I make more of this soup than every other Nigerian soup simply because it is likely the best source of vitamins known to me.

The only downside to this soup is that it loses its nutritional value when refrigerated over a long period of time.

You would find sliced water leaves in one bowl, sliced ugu leaves, 1.5kg of meat (goat meat and cow liver), pounded crayfish/pepper and periwinkles.

Have you seen or eaten periwinkles before, I like them so much. You can purchase already-cleaned periwinkle from most Nigerian market, although it is entirely up to you to decide if you want them or not. You will learn more from the video below

How to prepare water leave soup

Step 1
Slice the ugwu leaves and Water leaves to bits (the traders normally do this in the market (in Nigeria) but you can slice at home with the help of a very sharp knife and a chopping board.

Step 2

Pour the leaves separately in bowls and soak in water, wash to remove sand.

It is advisable to wash the leaves thoroughly before slicing or slice before washing, this is actually the major reason I sliced my leaves myself.

You can wash the fluted pumpkin before slicing but you will need to slice the water leaves before washing.

How to Cook edikaikong Soup

Step 3
Season meat with 1 teaspoon of salt, two seasoning cubes and some sliced onions.

Step 4

Cook for 10 minutes then add water and cook till meat is 70% softer for consumption, wash the dry fish and stockfish with hot water to remove sand and impurities then add to the cooking meat on fire.

(You can add this at the beginning if you have parched (strong) fish

Step 5
To the boiling meat on fire; 1 cup of Palm oil (500ml), it takes lots of oil to prepare this soup. I used about 300ml to make the soup in the video below.

Step 6
Add salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 5-10 minutes, be sure the whole combination is boiling with very little trace of water. It should look like this.

Step 6
Stir, taste for salt, add one tablespoon of ground ofor or achi (optional), sprinkle a spoon or a little more, stir. Cover half-way and allow to simmer for 3-5 minutes.

You just made delicious edikaiakong soup, you can serve with Nigerian fufu, semo, wheat, eba, or pounded yam.
