Hockey, of course, is a deeply ingrained part of Canadian identity, so for Trudeau, it was probably the perfect moment to deliver a playful jab.
The fact that Canada won in such a dramatic fashion, with McDavid scoring the game-winner, must’ve felt like a sweet victory for the team and for the country—especially with the added layer of the rivalry with the U.S. It also seems like some of the U.S. fans showed a lack of respect during the national anthem, which would’ve added to the intensity of the moment.
