The Yobe State Government has debunked a viral social media post claiming it approved a new minimum wage, labeling the information as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs for Governor Mai Mala Buni, the government clarified that it has not released any statement regarding the approval of a new minimum wage, as discussions are still ongoing.

“The Yobe Government’s attention has been drawn to a false and misleading post on social media alleging the approval of a new minimum wage. The government has not issued any statement on this matter, as it is still under consideration. A formal statement will be provided once the process is complete,” Mohammed stated.

The statement also criticized the unauthorized dissemination of such information, calling it “grossly irresponsible, preemptive, and misleading.” It noted that the post lacked specific details, including the source and timing, which undermined its credibility.

Furthermore, a national daily disowned the post, clarifying that the logo used did not originate from it, and the story was not available on its website. The government urged the public to disregard the “mischievous and misleading” post.
