Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has finally complied with an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following months of resistance.

Bello’s media aide, Ohiare Michael, confirmed this on Wednesday, September 18. According to Michael, Bello decided to honor the EFCC’s invitation after consulting with his family, legal team, and political allies.

The former governor, who has been facing a 19-count money laundering charge totaling ₦80 billion, is committed to ensuring due process and protecting his fundamental rights, as stated by Michael. Bello’s legal team continues to represent him in court, and he remains hopeful that cooperating with the EFCC will help clear his name.

Michael also highlighted Bello’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anti-corruption agenda and his previous implementation of an anti-corruption framework in Kogi State.

Accompanied by high-profile individuals, Bello arrived at the EFCC headquarters, marking a notable shift in his legal proceedings. Michael expressed hope that the EFCC would act professionally and respect Bello’s rights.

This development follows an adjournment of the case to September 25 by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja
