Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, has explained why he recently surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after previously ignoring its summons regarding alleged financial improprieties.
In a statement released by Bello’s Media Office Director, Ohiare Michael, it was disclosed that Bello willingly submitted himself to the EFCC out of respect for the rule of law and in support of President Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts. The decision came after consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies.
The statement emphasized that Bello’s decision was guided by his commitment to due process and the enforcement of his fundamental rights. Although the case has been ongoing in court, and Bello has been represented by his legal team, he chose to honor the EFCC’s invitation to clear his name, asserting that he has nothing to hide or fear.
Bello also expressed his support for President Tinubu’s administration and its efforts towards sustainable economic development and anti-corruption. Notably, Bello was the first Kogi State governor to implement an anti-corruption mechanism aimed at ensuring state resources were used for the benefit of the people.
The statement reflects Bello’s alignment with the current administration’s fight against corruption and his readiness to cooperate with the EFCC.
