On this year’s World Mental Health Day, the World Health Organisation (WHO) highlighted the need for mental health support in the workplace, emphasizing the detrimental impact of depression and anxiety, which result in the loss of 12 billion workdays annually. WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, stressed the importance of creating healthy work environments that foster social connections and personal well-being. This year’s theme, “It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace,” underlines the critical role that work plays in shaping lives, while also noting how poor working conditions and discrimination can negatively affect mental health.
