In honor of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Women Working With Children Conference is set to hold its 6th edition, focusing on refreshing and empowering women in their essential roles within families and communities.

Co-conveners Mr. Taiwo Akinlami and Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akinlami shared that the event has historically attracted thousands of participants and featured distinguished women who inspire in various fields.

“Our extensive work with children over the past three decades, spanning Africa and North America, has highlighted the significance of these roles,” said Mr. Akinlami. “Each edition of the conference centers on supporting women as they lead initiatives in Family Strengthening, fostering a Friendly and Protective Environment for Children®, and advocating for Rights-Based Parenting.”

This year’s conference will focus on the theme: “S.A.F.E for Children According to Play & Recreation: Empowering Women’s Leadership to Foster Resilient Children Through Play and Recreation, Shaping a Brighter Tomorrow.” The theme underlines that play is not merely a leisure activity but a fundamental right and a developmental necessity for children.

The conference aims to empower women to leverage their unique influence in nurturing and advocating for children’s needs. It will explore how providing women with leadership skills and resources can enhance efforts to cultivate resilient and empowered children, equipping them to face future challenges through play and recreation.

In light of current economic and social tensions, particularly in Africa, and the pervasive influence of digital devices that often restrict children to screens, the conference organizers believe this is a crucial moment to emphasize the importance of play in children’s lives. The event seeks to raise awareness and promote strategies that enable women to foster a brighter and more resilient future for the next generation.
