Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has shared a personal and culturally significant story about his birth, attributing the unusual 12-month pregnancy of his mother to the influence of witches and wizards. He recounted this during a drama presentation titled *Aremu omo Asabi*, which marked the 66th remembrance of his late mother, Bernice Obasanjo. The event took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Obasanjo reflected on how his mother faced significant challenges during her pregnancy, which he linked to supernatural forces before God’s intervention. He also expressed regret that his mother did not live long enough to see the fruits of her labor and his subsequent achievements. He noted that out of the nine children his mother had, only he and his sister survived, and he was the only one who received an education due to his father’s belief in limiting educational opportunities for female children.
In addition, Obasanjo pledged support for a drama troupe’s goal to set a record for the longest open drama presentation, aiming to achieve a spot in the Guinness Book of Records.
