The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of being the mastermind behind the recent violence in the state, attributing the unrest to Fubara’s defiance of a court judgment.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike stated, “Who is the perpetrator of the violence? I am not blaming the Governor, but he is the architect of the violence in the state.” He emphasized that he was not present in Rivers during the election-related turmoil, asserting that he was in Abuja at the time.
Wike reiterated his concerns regarding the state’s governance, pointing out that Fubara’s disregard for court orders has contributed to a breakdown of law and order. He remarked, “I was a governor; I have always obeyed the rule of law. You heard the governor say that our state is turning into a state of anarchy where people do not obey the rule of law.”
He stressed the importance of adhering to judicial rulings, stating, “The moment you don’t obey court judgment, you are inviting anarchy, you are inviting violence.”
This exchange comes in the wake of violent incidents that occurred after the local government elections in Rivers State, which resulted in the deaths of five individuals and the burning of over three local government secretariats. The unrest was reportedly fueled by political thugs allegedly loyal to the former governor, who protested the election results.
