Bello Turji, a notorious bandit leader declared wanted by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, has issued a bold statement challenging security forces. In a recent video lasting over five minutes, Turji expressed indifference to the threat of being killed, asserting, “We are always ready to be killed.”
Turji, one of 43 terrorists on the government’s wanted list, claimed that fear of death does not deter him or his group. He stated, “Killings have not started today; people were being killed since the era of past prophets. We are not afraid to die; we are not afraid of bombs.”
He conveyed a message to the people of Zamfara, asserting that violence against their kinsmen would result in reciprocal violence. “People of Zamfara, when you stop killing our kinsmen; we will allow yours to live,” he declared.
Furthermore, Turji denied allegations that bandits in the North-West are supported by former governors of Zamfara, stating, “Nobody is sponsoring us except God.” He criticized political leaders, including Governor Dauda Lawal and former Governor Bello Matawalle, as self-interested politicians lacking genuine concern for the people of Zamfara.
In his address, Turji also referenced historical grievances, claiming past governments sold out grazing reserves and legalized violence against the Fulani people. He urged the people of Zamfara to collaborate with bandits to restore peace and halt the ongoing violence.
This video follows Turji’s previous calls for reconciliation with the Federal Government, which have been met with skepticism from Northern leaders. Alhaji Mustafa Dutsima, Chairman of the Arewa Elders Progressive Group, advised against negotiating with those linked to banditry, emphasizing the need for a firm stance against such groups.
