Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to express sympathy with the people of Borno following the devastating flood caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam. The flood has displaced thousands and caused significant damage.
During his visit, Shettima, who led a Federal Government delegation, was welcomed by Governor Babagana Zulum and later visited the Shehu of Borno’s palace, which was also affected by the flood. He then proceeded to the Bakassi camp, where many displaced individuals are taking refuge.
Shettima announced that the government will provide support in the form of 50 trucks of rice to the flood victims. Additionally, he assured that the government would work in collaboration with the North East Development Commission and other agencies to ensure that the displaced individuals do not remain in the camp for more than two weeks.
The vice president’s visit comes as Maiduguri residents face severe flooding, which has engulfed numerous buildings and disrupted roads and bridges.
