The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr., revealed that in 2023, a total of 17,600 Nigerian students gained admission to various institutions across the United States.
Speaking at the 23rd Annual College Fair in Abuja on September 17, Mills Jr. noted that these students are enrolled in over 970 U.S. institutions, with many studying in Texas. He highlighted that the annual college fairs have been instrumental in providing financial and scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students.
Mills Jr. praised the strong educational ties between the U.S. and Nigeria, noting that more Nigerians study in the U.S. than students from any other African country. He emphasized that the College Fair offers valuable information about studying in the U.S. and career prospects.
The Ambassador expressed his commitment to ongoing collaboration with Nigeria in education, underscoring its importance for economic growth, health, gender equality, and other areas of development.
