The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning about the potential for urban flooding across Nigeria, with thunderstorms and heavy rains forecasted from Wednesday to Friday. The agency’s weather outlook anticipates severe weather conditions in various regions, including thunderstorms in parts of Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto States.
In the North Central region, light to moderate rains are expected over Plateau and Nasarawa States during the morning, with more intense rainfall predicted for the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and Nasarawa States later in the day.
The southern region is forecasted to experience a cloudy atmosphere with light morning rains in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, followed by more widespread rainfall across Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.
NiMet has emphasized the high likelihood of urban flooding, particularly in major cities, due to the expected heavy downpours. Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas and take necessary precautions. The agency also noted that strong winds might precede the thunderstorms, urging the public and airline operators to stay informed through updated weather reports for effective planning.
