The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) management has confirmed that there was no inter-gang clash resulting in student deaths recently.

University Spokesman, Dr. Sam Kpenu, addressed the issue in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, following online videos alleging that recent student deaths were due to an inter-gang conflict.

Kpenu clarified that the incident involved a fight between students, not a cult clash, and expressed concern about the misreporting of the event.

“We are aware of inaccurate media reports suggesting that students died during an incident on campus. Contrary to these claims, no student was killed or injured; it was a mere fight,” Kpenu stated.

He added that the university’s security unit and the police promptly intervened, and the students involved in the altercation have been apprehended and are being interrogated.

Kpenu criticized the media for misinterpreting the situation and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining high standards in handling security issues.

“The university has zero tolerance for cultism, bullying, and any violent or disruptive behavior on campus,” he said, assuring that the university environment remains calm and that academic activities continue as usual.
