Lecturers at the University of Cross River (UNICROSS) staged a protest on Friday over the nonpayment of six months’ worth of palliative allowances, approved at N10,000 per month by Governor Bassey Otu.

The lecturers, rallying at the university’s administrative block, demanded an audience with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Ochang, chanting slogans such as “We want our money,” “no pay no work,” and “we say no to minibuses.” They alleged that management diverted their palliative funds to purchase minibuses.

After some time, the Vice Chancellor addressed the lecturers, requesting patience and pledging to begin payments within three months, with a full balance settlement within two weeks. Ochang explained the delay, citing that the palliative was activity-based, not cash-backed
