As Nigeria joins the world to celebrate this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, UNICEF has called for increased attention to girls’ rights. Celine Lafoucriere, UNICEF’s Chief of the Field Office for South-West Nigeria, emphasized the importance of empowering girls and ensuring their protection, equal opportunities, and respect.

This year’s theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” highlights the resilience and hope of girls despite facing challenges like child marriage, abuse, and limited educational opportunities. Lafoucriere urged individuals, organizations, and governments to become allies for girls, stressing that when girls are supported to achieve their potential, everyone benefits.
