The President General of the Umunze Progressive Union (UPU), Engr. Ezekiel Iheazor, and a prominent All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chieftain, Nze Ikechukwu Okoli, have been kidnapped in Umunze, Anambra State. The incident took place at Okoli’s residence in Lomu village during a heavy downpour.
Local sources confirmed the abduction, reporting that armed men fired sporadically before taking the two men away. Iheazor was visiting Okoli when the assailants struck. A resident described the tense situation: “I heard loud gunshots but couldn’t come out due to the rain. Later, a community leader broke the sad news of the kidnapping.”
Iheazor’s car was left at the scene, while the abductors fled in a Highlander jeep. The town is now gripped by fear, with no communication from the captors.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, noted he had not yet been briefed on the incident but assured the public that the matter would be investigated.
Residents of Umunze are anxiously awaiting updates on the fate of their leaders.
