The recent statement by the Minister of Work, David Umahi, highlights a major focus on improving Nigeria’s road infrastructure through the implementation of continuous reinforced concrete pavement technology. This initiative aims to address the challenges faced by roads in flood-prone areas or regions with high water tables, especially those with heavy traffic. The technology promises enhanced durability, with concrete pavements potentially lasting 50 to 100 years, compared to 10 years for asphalt roads.

Umahi’s inspection tour in Delta State included the 2.46-kilometre Special Intervention Project on the East-West Road, showcasing the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing the nation’s economic corridors. The minister also praised the quality of work being done and received positive feedback from local communities and road users who expressed appreciation for the improvements.

In addition to the East-West Road project, other inspected projects in the region include the dualization of the Sapele-Agbor-Ewu Road, rehabilitation of the Asaba-Agbor dual carriageway, and the reconstruction of the Benin-Sapele-Warri dual carriageway. All projects are being handled by various contractors, with Umahi urging them to expedite work in line with President Bola Tinubu’s expectations.

Umahi emphasized the importance of cooperation from all involved parties to enhance Nigeria’s road infrastructure, making it more reliable and user-friendly for the public.
