U.S. GOVERNMENT COMMENDS EDO STATE FOR PEACEFUL GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION

The United States government has praised the people of Edo State for their peaceful conduct during the recent gubernatorial election held on September 21. In a statement released on the Embassy’s website and signed by Ambassador Richard Mills Jr., the U.S. Mission in Nigeria expressed appreciation for the calmness displayed by voters.

Ambassador Mills Jr. commended Governor Obaseki for his appeal for peace and urged all stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to uphold established electoral processes and respect legal procedures for challenging election results. He emphasized that transparency and due process are essential for maintaining public confidence in any democratic system.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the United States’ commitment to supporting free, fair, transparent, and credible elections in Nigeria, along with a pledge to continue closely monitoring the situation.
