South African artist Tyla triumphed over prominent names like Tems, Ayra Starr, and Davido to win the Best Afrobeats award at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
The awards ceremony took place on September 11, 2024, at The USB Arena in New York. Tyla’s hit single “Water” emerged victorious in the Best Afrobeats category, competing against notable entries such as Tems’ “Love Me Jeje,” Ayra Starr’s “Last Heartbreak Song,” and collaborations like Usher’s “Ruin” featuring Pheelz.
