At least two soldiers, the son of a village head, and two commanders of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed when suspected Boko Haram terrorists ambushed a military convoy along the Dikwa-New Marte route in the Marte local government area of Borno State.

This incident follows a recent attack where suspected terrorists killed farmers in Ashigashiya village of Gwoza local government area, which borders the Mandara Mountains of Cameroon.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC Borno South) and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army condemned the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks, particularly against local farmers who have returned to their communities after years of displacement.

Reports indicate that the ambush occurred last Monday morning, but details were delayed due to poor telecommunications. The attack claimed the lives of the CJTF Chairman and Overall Commander in the Marte and New Marte communities. Many injured individuals were later evacuated to a hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.

“Some Boko Haram terrorists laid ambush and killed two soldiers, two members of Civilian JTF, and a son of a village head in Marte, Mai Musenima. The deceased were part of a security detail for ongoing road clearance along the Dikwa-Marte road,” a source revealed.

The bodies of the deceased, except for the soldiers, were buried according to Islamic rites in Marte. Efforts to confirm this information with the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
