A 40-year-old man, Jibrin Adamu, tragically took his own life by hanging in Jigawar Maroka village, Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State. This incident was confirmed by DSP Lawan Shiisu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Jigawa, who reported that Adamu had a history of mental illness and committed suicide on Thursday evening.
The police received the report around 6:30 p.m. on September 19, 2024. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Adamu’s body hanging from the ceiling of a classroom at Miftahul Khairat Islamiyya and Primary School in Gurdiba. Medical professionals at Dutse General Hospital later certified him dead, and his remains were returned to his family for burial.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Adamu had experienced periodic mental health issues, often disappearing for days before returning home. Prior to his death, he had gone out to fetch water near the location of the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Ahmadu Abdullahi, has called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
