The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the death of a driver following a collision between two trucks near Cane Village, Maryland. The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the accident was caused by brake failure.

LASEMA responded to distress calls made through the 767 and 112 toll-free lines at 12:08 PM, activating the response team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja. Upon arrival at the scene, the team found that a concrete mixer truck (registration number DGW 208 XA) had collided with another truck (registration number SMK 906 YE).

Investigations revealed that one of the trucks experienced brake failure, lost control, and crashed into a JUSTRITE truck, whose driver was in the process of loading items. The collision caused the JUSTRITE truck to ram into a nearby building and strike two pedestrians.

Tragically, the driver of the JUSTRITE truck died instantly, while the two other victims sustained injuries and were transported to Gbagada General Hospital for treatment.

Oke-Osanyintolu indicated that LASEMA’s response team has implemented necessary safety measures to protect responders at the scene. Additionally, traffic control measures are in place to manage the flow of traffic around the accident site.
