< 1 mn read

Traditional rulers have reiterated their demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), citing his detention as a contributing factor to the ongoing tension in the region. HRM Eze Linus Nto Mbah, Chairman of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider a political solution for Kanu’s incarceration, arguing that his release would help restore peace, identify those perpetuating violence, and put an end to the detrimental sit-at-home practice.

The monarchs also criticized the Igbo political elite for the federal government’s disrespect toward Igbo royal fathers, calling on South East governors to treat traditional rulers with dignity to earn the respect of the federal government.
