Some traders at the popular Ikpoba Hill Market in Benin resumed business on Saturday night shortly after the Edo Governorship Election. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that movement was restricted during the election hours, which ended at 6 pm, affecting commercial activities as shops and markets remained closed.

Despite the late opening, several traders expressed optimism about making good sales. They noted that many buyers, who depend on daily market visits, would still come regardless of the time.

A fruit seller, Loveth Idemudia, said she returned to the market to prevent her goods from spoiling. Having purchased loaves of bread and fruits, she mentioned that she couldn’t afford to lose them. “I arrived at the market around 6.39 pm, but I’ve already made reasonable sales and hope to sell everything before going home,” Idemudia said.

Another trader, Angela Osas, who sells ‘fufu’, shared that she had sold a full bucket of the product within an hour of arrival. She mentioned getting the business idea after the 2023 General Elections and was satisfied with her sales that night.

A tomato seller known as “Mama Baby” aimed to sell all her products to avoid any losses. Though she didn’t arrive on time, she was confident about finishing her stock as sales gradually picked up.

Customer Cecilia Emeka, who visited the market due to shop closures in her area, also contributed to the night’s market activity.
