Veteran Nigerian actress Toyin Adegbola, widely known as Toyin Tomato, recently shared her thoughts on marriage and commitment during an Instagram live session. The 62-year-old star emphasized the importance of women staying committed to their marriages, regardless of the challenges they might face.
Adegbola expressed her belief that true equality in marriage is unrealistic and encouraged women to adjust their expectations. She advised against considering divorce, even in situations of infidelity, urging women to take precautions against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) instead.
“No matter how terrible your husband is, don’t ever think of chasing him out or leaving his house because you will have to beg later when your children have an important event,” she stated. Adegbola emphasized the sacrifices women make in their marriages and cautioned that leaving could lead to difficulties in finding another partner.
She recounted a friend’s practice of buying condoms for her husband when he travels, highlighting a disparity in expectations between men and women in relationships. Adegbola also called for men to see women as partners and encouraged the idea of maintaining separate finances, saying, “I also don’t support having a joint account.”
Her comments reflect traditional views on marriage dynamics and the complexities women face in their relationships.
