Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with a €45m (£37m) offer, plus performance-based bonuses, expected to be made in the summer transfer window. Spurs will face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, both of whom are also keen on the 27-year-old CAF Player of the Year.

Lookman has enjoyed a standout season at Atalanta, scoring 17 goals and providing seven assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. His versatility across the front three has made him an appealing target for several top Premier League clubs. After stints with Everton, RB Leipzig, and now Atalanta since 2022, Lookman is reportedly eager to return to the Premier League.

Liverpool, who are preparing for a potential attacking overhaul, are particularly interested in Lookman as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, whose future at Anfield remains uncertain. Chelsea, on the other hand, are looking to add more depth to their attacking options, having relied heavily on Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer this season.

Atalanta is said to prefer selling Lookman outside Italy, which could give English clubs an edge. However, the Italian club might demand up to €65m (£53.8m) for the forward, especially following his historic hat-trick in Atalanta’s Europa League final victory and his key role in Nigeria’s run to the Africa Cup of Nations final.

With Lookman’s contract entering its final year this summer (though Atalanta has an option to extend it for another year), the decision will ultimately lie with the club regarding whether to accept the offer from Spurs or hold onto their star player.
