The Phoenix Project Awards Young Entrepreneurs

Nigeria’s leading creative learning platform, The Phoenix Project, has proudly announced the awardees from its annual pitch event, The Phoenix Den. This year, three outstanding young entrepreneurs were recognized for their innovative contributions:

  • Olukoya Benjamin: Founder of Shoggyben Visuals
  • Dawn Nketim-Rex: Founder of The Film Joint
  • Eric Nwanso: Creator of an Online Platform for Indigenous Language and Culture for Nigerian Teens and Adults

These awardees were chosen from a competitive group of ten finalists who pitched their ideas to a panel of judges on September 4, 2024, at Access Bank Headquarters in Oniru, Lagos.

Awards and Support

Each awardee will receive a grant of ₦1.5 million, alongside mentorship and access to a network of industry experts. This support includes:

  • Reduced interest business loans
  • Tailored advisory services
  • Business consultations designed for micro, small, and medium enterprises through Access Bank’s SME business clinic

About The Phoenix Project

Launched in April 2022, The Phoenix Project aims to train and support individuals aspiring to enter the Nigerian creative industry. It offers a three-tiered program (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) in partnership with the School of Media and Communication of the Pan-Atlantic University, culminating in a three-month incubation program, The Phoenix Den, at the Nest Innovation Tech Park.

Notable Remarks

Colette Otusheso, CEO of Accelerate Group, emphasized the project’s role in showcasing creative talents in Nigeria, stating:

“The Phoenix Project has consistently provided a platform for creative talent to thrive in Nigeria. We are proud to offer financial support to these brilliant entrepreneurs.”

Chioma Ogwo, Head of Non-Financial Services at Access Bank, highlighted the importance of nurturing the creative industry, saying:

“At Access Bank, we believe in supporting talent dedicated to the progress of Nigeria’s creative ecosystem.”

Special Recognition

Additionally, Tosin Jones, a writer and filmmaker, received special recognition for his social impact short film. He was awarded a laptop and additional resources for sound scoring and editing support from Accelerate Studios.

The Phoenix Project aims to address youth unemployment in Nigeria by leveraging the country’s creative resources. It covers various knowledge areas, including:

  • Social Media for Business
  • Entertainment Law
  • Graphic Design
  • Scriptwriting
  • Film Production
