Nigerian Afrobeats star Omah Lay recently experienced his first earthquake during a stay in Los Angeles, USA. The earthquake struck while he was being interviewed on the Zach Sang Show. Omah Lay described the experience as terrifying and unusual, as he had never encountered such a natural disaster before.
During the interview, Omah Lay was discussing his career, his Nigerian upbringing, and his musical influences, including the impact of Fela Kuti on Afrobeats. Just as he was elaborating on the genre, the studio began to shake, interrupting the conversation.
Reacting to the quake, the host, Zach, said in shock, “Oh wow, that’s an earthquake. Oh wow. That’s a strong one.” Omah Lay, visibly startled, responded, “That is so weird; I have never seen or witnessed an earthquake.”
The host explained that the building was designed to be secure against such events, which added to the singer’s astonishment. “That is crazy; something must have happened,” Omah Lay said, looking around the room. “It was scary; that was scary,” he added.
Despite the initial fear, Omah Lay managed to stay composed and continued with the interview, as Zach checked on everyone’s safety. The incident highlighted Omah Lay’s first encounter with a significant natural event and added an unexpected twist to his LA visit.
