A tragic incident has occurred in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where Mr. Raymond Timothy, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councilorship candidate for the Pari Ward, and his brother, James Timothy, were killed by terrorists.
The attack took place on Sunday as the brothers were returning from a political campaign in Kizachi village. According to Barnabas Chawai, a PDP chieftain in the area, they were shot while riding their motorcycle. Chawai alleged that the killings could be politically motivated and urged security agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. He emphasized the need for drastic measures to prevent further violence, especially with the October 19 local government elections approaching. The victims leave behind three children, and the wife of Raymond Timothy is pregnant with their fourth child.
John Wanneh, the Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, recounted that he had just parted ways with Raymond at around 6 p.m. when they heard gunshots coming from nearby guinea corn farms. He expressed uncertainty about the identity of the attackers and the potential political motives behind the killings. Wanneh appealed for government assistance in constructing a bridge and road to improve accessibility for emergency situations, noting that the current state of the roads hampers security operatives’ access to the village.
As of the latest reports, the Kaduna State Police Command has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
Senator Sunday Katung, representing the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, condemned the killings, labeling them barbaric and unacceptable in a civilized society. In his statement, he reiterated his call for the Kaduna State government to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and address the ongoing security challenges in Kauru Local Government. Katung stressed that ensuring the security and welfare of citizens is the primary responsibility of the government.
