Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has intervened to stop a planned All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting, which was reportedly organized by former party chairman Austin Agada. Governor Alia, asserting his authority as the APC leader in the state, denied any knowledge of the meeting and stressed that no such gathering could occur without his approval.
He issued a strong warning against unauthorized meetings, stating that any attempt to disrupt state peace would have consequences. The situation has heightened tensions within the party, especially in light of the upcoming local government election scheduled for October 5 by the Benue State Independent Electoral Committee (BSIEC).
The APC secretariat in Makurdi, the state capital, has been surrounded by police and youths, marking the fourth instance of the party premises being locked down. The ongoing election preparations have intensified factional disputes within the party, contributing to the current unrest.
