Taiwo Awoniyi, the Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, has hinted at the possibility of remaining in the Premier League next season following Nottingham Forest’s successful bid to avoid relegation. Having joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin for a transfer fee of 20.50 million euros on July 1, 2022, Awoniyi has been a pivotal figure for the team despite facing various injury challenges.
In the recently concluded 2023-2024 Premier League season, the 26-year-old Nigerian international showcased his talent by scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists in 20 league appearances.
Despite his significant contributions to Nottingham Forest, there have been rumors suggesting that Awoniyi might be offloaded this summer. Nottingham’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, is reportedly considering selling some of the club’s key players to avoid breaching the Premier League’s financial fair play regulations.
However, Awoniyi’s recent Facebook post implies his intention to stay at Nottingham Forest beyond this season. “After all is said and done. I’m who I am because of you (God). See you next season @premierleague,” he wrote, indicating his readiness to continue with the club.
He further expressed gratitude to Nottingham Forest supporters, stating, “Another year to remember again. You deserve it, Nottingham Forest. Thanks for your support always and for helping us to push through. You truly the best, You RED.”
It’s noteworthy that Awoniyi’s contract with Nottingham Forest is set to expire on June 30, 2027.
