Sweden’s government announced on Thursday a substantial increase in financial grants for immigrants who choose to leave the country voluntarily. Starting in 2026, immigrants who return to their home countries will be eligible to receive up to 350,000 Swedish kronor (approximately $34,000), a significant rise from the current 10,000 kronor.
This amount, which equals approximately 55,930,000 Nigerian naira at the recent exchange rate of N1,645 per dollar, is intended to encourage more migrants to opt for voluntary return.
The right-wing government, supported by the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats, revealed this policy shift in an official statement.
