Five suspects have been apprehended by the police in Jos for allegedly diverting two trucks of government-issued Indorama fertiliser intended for Lagos and Oyo States to Bauchi State. The arrests were made following intelligence reports received by the police headquarters and the office of the National Security Adviser.
ASC Ruth Rimvyok, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, disclosed the incident on Monday, August 26, 2024. According to Rimvyok, the suspects were arrested in the Mararaban Jama’a area of Jos South Local Government Area on August 21 and 23, respectively.
The allocation papers accompanying the fertiliser indicated that the products were meant for Lagos and Oyo States. However, the fertiliser was found to be en route to Bauchi State, prompting the authorities to act swiftly.
Rimvyok confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for orchestrating the diversion of the fertiliser. Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Abubakar Mohammed, denied any wrongdoing, claiming that they were instructed to deliver the fertiliser to Bauchi State.
