As the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election in Ondo State approaches, key political figures have rallied behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Among these supporters is Dr. Aderotimi Adelola, the longest-serving Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Ondo’s history, who served under Dr. Rahman Olusegun Mimiko from 2009 to 2017.
In a statement released in Akure, Dr. Adelola commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for stabilizing the state and preserving the legacy of the Aketi administration and previous governments. He believes the governor has demonstrated the qualities necessary to earn widespread support from the people of Ondo State.
“I am thrilled to endorse Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the upcoming governorship election,” stated Dr. Adelola. “As a former Secretary to the State Government under Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, I had the privilege of observing and actively participating in the development of Ondo State.”
He further praised Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, noting his initiatives have positively impacted various sectors and highlighted his commitment to promoting Ondo State’s rich cultural heritage. Dr. Adelola emphasized that with his extensive understanding of the state’s development needs, Governor Aiyedatiwa is the ideal leader to advance the socioeconomic and cultural progress of Ondo State.
“I urge all well-meaning citizens to unite and ensure his continued leadership for the benefit of our beloved state,” he added.
Additionally, Dr. Adelola endorsed the appointment of Hon. Abiola Makinde as the Director General of the Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization, referring to him as a “square peg in a square hole.” He expressed confidence in Makinde’s ability to replicate the creativity he demonstrated during his House of Representatives campaign, which yielded positive results.
Governor Aiyedatiwa faces competition from HE Hon. Agboola Ajayi, the PDP flag bearer and former Deputy Governor of the state, among other candidates.
Dr. Aderotimi Adelola, PhD, a noted organizational psychologist, has also recently published a book titled “Working under the Sunshine: Reminiscences on How a State Government in Nigeria Created Values for the People.” This book offers insights into the success principles of a state government in Nigeria, showcasing how a people-oriented, outcome-focused administration can create sustained value for its stakeholders and highlighting the achievements of the Mimiko administration, particularly for marginalized citizens.
