Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has come to the defense of his teammate Victor Boniface following criticism over his performance in Nigeria’s 3-0 win against Benin Republic. Despite the victory, Boniface faced scrutiny for missing several opportunities during the match.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker, who was substituted in the second half, was replaced by Osimhen, who scored just eight minutes after his introduction.
Speaking on the Counter Attack podcast, Osimhen expressed support for Boniface, highlighting the unity within the team. “Boniface has been a brother to me, just like Awoniyi,” Osimhen said. “One thing I really love about this group is the unity and solidarity, regardless of who is starting or who is on the bench. We all have the same mindset and goal—to win every game and fight for each other.”
Osimhen acknowledged that while Boniface was unlucky with some of his attempts, such occurrences are common for strikers. He emphasized that Boniface played well and remains a crucial player capable of making significant contributions.
“It’s really a good game from him,” Osimhen added. “It was important for me to come in and do my part as well.”
