This ranking improvement follows their 1-0 victory over Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 11 in Uyo. The team also moved up to fourth in Africa, surpassing their previous sixth position in September. Nigeria now trails only Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt on the continental stage.

Globally, October saw a flurry of activity with 32 FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, 47 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers, 79 Nations League matches, and 17 friendlies, contributing to changes in the FIFA rankings.

Argentina continues to top the global ranking, followed closely by France and Spain, while Portugal and Italy made upward moves within the top 10. Significant movers also include Algeria (37th), Peru (38th), and Cameroon (49th), with Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe also making notable strides.
