A private screening of the highly anticipated film First Chronicles of the Island took place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Blue Pictures Cinema, Onikan, Lagos, featuring a star-studded cast that included Bimbo Manuel, Gregory Ojefua, McPashun, and Gaji Samuel.

Veteran actor Bimbo Manuel expressed his excitement about being part of the project, highlighting the dedication of every actor involved. “Everybody is extremely important, and this one in particular is interesting for me to play, because some of my schoolmates, my juniors, put this together. I am hoping that people will watch it and learn valuable lessons,” he stated.

Gregory Ojefua, who plays the Chairman of the Island Local Government, portrayed an illiterate man who abuses power. He noted the character’s resemblance to real-life figures, hoping it would provoke viewers to demand better leadership. “People only complain, they try to stand up for themselves, but nothing happens. You’ll recognise some real-life people in this character, and I hope it annoys you enough to encourage those people to do better,” Ojefua remarked.

The film’s director, Austine Lordlaz, emphasized its unique approach, describing First Chronicles of the Island as a mix of documentary, voiceover, and mockumentary styles. “We delved into what some may consider daring. The film tackles human behaviours, especially during crises like COVID-19 and Ebola. We address global warming, poor customer service, and fake lifestyles,” he explained.

Lordlaz praised the professionalism of the veteran cast, noting that working with actors like Bimbo Manuel and Segun Arinze was an enriching experience. “They are senior men. Working with them was an interesting ride, and I say congratulations to every one of them. They have great talent,” he added.

McPashun, who plays Mr. Dumba, emphasized the importance of consistency in acting and urged his peers to evolve in their craft. “They may not get it right at first, but consistency is key. I’ve evolved in my work over the years, and actors will continue to grow if given the chance,” he stated.

Gaji Samuel, portraying a landlord, highlighted the film’s entertainment value, assuring viewers of an enjoyable experience. “My experience in this movie was wonderful. I can guarantee you will love it, from the opening scene to the last. If not, I’ll refund your money!” he joked.

First Chronicles of the Island boasts a diverse ensemble of top Nollywood talents, including Afeez Oyetoro (Saka), Linda Osifo, Bishop Imeh (Okon Lagos), Kiki Omeili, Jude Orhorha, Monkals, and many others. The film promises to deliver both thought-provoking themes and entertainment, offering a fresh cinematic experience for audiences.
