The National Assembly South East caucus has expressed concern over the region’s exclusion from the list of beneficiaries for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and Rep. Igariwey Iduma Enwo urged tertiary institutions in the South East to comply with NELFUND’s verification requests to ensure that students in the region can access the loans.

The caucus highlighted that despite N2.9 billion being disbursed to 27,667 students from 19 institutions nationwide, no beneficiaries from South East institutions have been listed. NELFUND attributed this omission to the South East institutions’ failure to respond to verification requests.

The caucus called on students in the region to apply for the loans and urged institutions to expedite their verification processes. They emphasized the importance of not marginalizing the South East from available opportunities and stressed that such support is a right for all Nigerians.
