The Sokoto State government has issued a statement in response to Vice President Kashim Shettima’s comments at the Northwest Security summit regarding rumors of a plan to remove Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III. The government emphasized the importance of verifying facts before making public statements on sensitive national issues. Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, expressed disappointment that the Vice President did not consult with the Governor to confirm the accuracy of the rumors before addressing them publicly.
The statement clarified that there was never any attempt to remove or threaten Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III. It affirmed the Sultan’s full entitlement to his powers, freedoms, and rights, asserting that the Sokoto State government takes seriously its responsibility to protect and uphold the dignity of the sultanate council. The government reassured Nigerians of its commitment to safeguarding the sultanate council and maintaining its esteemed status within the state.
