Simi, one of Nigeria’s prominent female artists known for her soulful vocals and award-winning songwriting, recently shared a surprising revelation during an interview on the Zero Conditions Podcast. She candidly admitted that she doesn’t listen to a lot of music, including that of other artists, and the only reason she listens to her husband, Adekunle Gold’s music, is because they are married.

In her own words from the podcast, Simi stated, “I don’t know anybody. The reason I know my husband’s songs is because I am married to him.” She elaborated further, explaining that she tends not to consume much music in general, even her own albums. She emphasized that she’s currently listening to her latest album, ‘Lost But Found’, primarily because it just released, but expects her listening habits to diminish over time.

This revelation contrasts with the common perception that musicians are avid consumers of music across various genres and artists. Simi’s focus on her own creative process and personal life, particularly her roles as a wife and mother, seems to shape her musical preferences and habits.

Simi’s latest album, ‘Lost But Found’, has garnered attention for its introspective themes and collaborations with notable Afrobeats artists like Tiwa Savage, Falz, and Asa, among others. The album explores themes of self-discovery and growth, reflecting the changes in her life following marriage and motherhood.

As Simi continues to navigate her career and personal life, her unique perspective on music consumption adds depth to her identity as an artist and public figure in Nigeria’s vibrant music scene.
