Popular comedian Oluwaseyitan Aletile, known as Seyi Law, has declared that he is not competing with anyone in the comedy industry. He regards comedy legends like Alibaba, Julius Agwu, Basketmouth, and AY not as rivals, but as benefactors who have significantly contributed to his career.
Seyi Law emphasized that these comedy icons have supported him throughout his journey. As a Yoruba man, he believes it goes against his values to compete with those who have helped him.
In a recent episode of Hip TV’s “Trending,” he stated that he is indifferent to rankings within the comedy world. “At some point, there was no rift in the industry, and there was no need to categorize comedians,” he remarked.
He shared his experiences of collaboration and respect for his peers, saying, “I have played with everybody and still respect everyone. I went on a comedy tour with Julius Agwu, who did not discriminate against me. I’ve covered events for Basketmouth, who has paid me for shows, and I’ve also worked with AY.”
Seyi Law underscored the importance of respect in the industry: “As a Yoruba person, we don’t disrespect anyone who has given us food. They are all highly respected. Regardless of any differences they may have, they are my senior colleagues, and they have not had reasons to compete with me.”
He concluded, “Anywhere you place me in the ranking is okay by me. I don’t want to be one of those people dragging rankings with anyone in the industry. As long as we are all doing fine, kudos. The most important thing is that we must not allow the industry to suffer.”
