Renowned musician and activist Seun Kuti has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, calling it a “wicked decision” that harms the welfare of Nigerians. During an Instagram live session, Kuti expressed his outrage, asserting that the Nigerian government has the resources to provide for its citizens without relying on private investments.
Kuti challenged the notion that the government cannot afford essential services and highlighted the disparity between government spending on luxury items and investment in public services. He cited the $150 million spent on a private jet for President Tinubu as an example of misplaced priorities, arguing that such funds could have been used to build and sustain numerous schools.
The activist also criticized the government’s reliance on public-private partnerships for community services, pointing out that such partnerships are rarely sought for extravagant government expenditures.
Kuti condemned the president’s handling of the fuel subsidy issue, asserting that it reflects a broader pattern of neglect towards the needs of ordinary Nigerians and accusing the government of making decisions that prioritize their own comfort over public welfare.
