Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization, has expressed deep concern over the rising hardship in Nigeria, urging President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to provide relief to the suffering citizens.
Speaking to journalists, the former governor of Abia State emphasized the severity of the situation, highlighting the struggles faced by businesses and workers, including the 10,000 employees in his own group of companies. Kalu stressed the high cost of operations, including fuel and maintenance, and shared how he has personally adapted to the challenges, such as opting for commercial flights to save funds for workers’ welfare.
Kalu praised President Tinubu’s bold economic reforms, stating that no president in Nigeria’s 60-year history has shown such courage. While acknowledging the difficulties caused by the reforms, he urged Tinubu to find immediate solutions to ease the burden on citizens.
Regarding the Edo State Gubernatorial election, Kalu commended the hard work of the APC team and emphasized that the election is about numbers, with the most organized party deserving the victory.
On rumors about his health, Kalu clarified that he was healthy and had been abroad for a two-month study on democracy and the economy during the Senate recess.
