During the inauguration of the 2.7 km Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, First Lady and Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed her concerns about the declining natural beauty of the campus and called for immediate restoration efforts.

Mrs. Tinubu attributed the deterioration to a poor maintenance culture and emphasized the need for regeneration, stating, “I will donate N1 billion for the OAU horticultural landscape to be restored. The campus used to be beautiful while I was here. Ife is crying out for help. It used to be a beautiful campus, and the beauty must be restored.”

The inauguration, which coincided with celebrations for the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi’s 50th birthday, featured a grand pavilion and a monument named in her honor. The Ooni praised Mrs. Tinubu for her contributions to education and women’s empowerment, noting the erection of a golden statue to immortalize her virtues. He remarked, “This statue showcases the strength of a teacher, a mother, and a wife at the very heart of Obafemi Awolowo University.”

Additionally, Oba Ogunwusi highlighted the construction of a state-of-the-art hostel and a road equipped with solar lamps, designed to provide a safe passage for students amid recent blackouts. He stated, “This road symbolizes the many paths she has opened for youth, women, and the underprivileged in our society.”

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by his deputy Kola Adewusi, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to enhancing infrastructural amenities across Osun.

The event marked a significant step toward revitalizing the university’s environment while celebrating Senator Tinubu’s legacy of leadership and dedication to education and community development.
