The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Prof. Abdullahi Saleh as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). This decision was made on Thursday following the presentation and adoption of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs’ report during a plenary session.
Sen. Bello Abubakar (APC-Niger), Chairman of the Committee, highlighted that Saleh’s nomination aligns with section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act 2006. He noted that there were no petitions against the nominee, who had been cleared by security agencies and provided his tax clearance and code of conduct acknowledgment slip.
Abubakar praised Saleh’s qualifications and extensive experience, stating he was articulate and meticulous during the screening process. He urged the Senate to confirm the appointment, which received support from the Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano), who commended the committee’s thorough vetting.
The Senate ultimately confirmed Prof. Saleh as the new Chairman of NAHCON, entrusting him with the responsibilities of overseeing the commission.
