On Tuesday, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the security situation in the North West, following two operational tours to Sokoto State.
Dr. Matawalle highlighted the notable successes achieved by the Nigerian military in combating insecurity in the region, commending the professionalism and commitment of the Armed Forces. He emphasized the critical role the military continues to play in safeguarding the nation, stating, “They will continue to play a critical role in safeguarding our nation.”
The Minister praised President Tinubu for his administration’s unwavering commitment to providing the necessary resources to maintain operational efficiency against security threats in the North West. He reiterated the government’s determination to strengthen the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of a broader strategy to combat insecurity.
During his operational tour of Sokoto State, Matawalle aimed to restore public confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts to establish peace and security across the North West. A statement from the Ministry of Defence noted the success of the tour, indicating that his presence, along with the Chief of Defence Staff and other military chiefs, led to the elimination of several key bandit leaders, including Halilu Buzu Sububu. This development underscores the government’s commitment to flushing out bandits and terrorists.
Matawalle urged residents of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to ensure the success of ongoing operations. President Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the briefing, commending the Minister and the military for their renewed determination to eradicate insecurity in the North West and throughout the country.
