American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has reportedly been placed on suicide watch as he awaits trial for charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. On Wednesday, Diddy made a court appearance, seeking a $50 million bail package to avoid being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre, but the judge denied the request.
According to PEOPLE, the suicide watch is a “preventative measure” due to the high-profile nature of the case. His legal team argued that he was not a danger, but the judge remained unconvinced.
Prosecutors presented alleged text messages between Diddy and his ex, Cassie Ventura, dating back to a 2016 incident. One of the messages quoted Diddy saying, “Call me, the cops are here. I got six kids. You, please call. I’m surrounded. You gonna abandon me all alone.”
Diddy has pleaded not guilty to the charges and continues to maintain his innocence.
