In a significant move ahead of the Edo governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has merged with the Accord Party. Dr. Bright Enabulele has been named as the unified candidate from this alliance.
This strategic merger is expected to enhance Enabulele’s campaign, positioning him as a formidable contender in the upcoming race.
Enabulele welcomed the merger with enthusiasm, expressing his commitment to democratic values and governance reform. “We’re thrilled to integrate SDP members into the Accord fold,” Enabulele stated. “Their decision to join us reflects a collective desire for democratic governance and a departure from autocratic practices. Together, we’re dedicated to delivering fresh and inclusive leadership that every Edo indigene deserves.”
The merger underscores the SDP members’ dissatisfaction with the current political climate, which they view as autocratic. Yakubu Asimu, SDP’s Deputy Chairman in Edo State, voiced this sentiment: “We’re weary of the entrenched autocracy and lack of progress in Edo State. Joining forces with Accord demonstrates our commitment to change and transparent, accountable government.”
Anticipation is growing as the alliance is expected to gain further support, with at least two other political parties likely to endorse Enabulele soon. This growing backing indicates a potential shift in Edo State’s political landscape, reflecting a widespread call for reform and a new approach to governance.
As the election approaches, the unified parties are rallying for significant change.
