Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady of Lagos State, has urged for precise data on drug abusers to effectively tackle drug abuse issues in the state. Speaking at a discourse titled “Drug Abuse and Its Effect on Youths, Domestic Affairs, and Economic Development” on August 29, 2024, she stressed that accurate information is vital to correct any false data provided by external sources regarding drug-related activities in Lagos.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu’s efforts include establishing a committee to work alongside the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other partners to combat drug abuse. She reaffirmed her dedication to the fight against drug abuse and the significance of accurate data in formulating effective policies and interventions.
The event also featured remarks from Ifeyinwa Omowole of the News Agency of Nigeria, who advised youths to engage in productive activities and avoid drug abuse. Abubakar Liman, Lagos State Commander of NDLEA, discussed the stages and causes of drug abuse, such as peer pressure and lack of parental support, and outlined NDLEA’s preventive measures like sensitization and intervention.
Convened by Abdulhakeem Abd’Rasaq, the event aimed to address the pressing issue of drug abuse and its effects on society.
